Crofton Training Band

Training Band is the next step for players who are ready to build on their foundations and experience what it’s like to play as part of a full band.

This group is about developing musical skills while keeping the joy of playing at the centre. Rehearsals focus on learning proper band skills, listening to each other, following a conductor, and growing in confidence as a musician. Music is chosen to stretch players gently, without throwing anyone in at the deep end.

Training Band is mixed-age and mixed-experience. Some players arrive from Brass Roots, others return to music after a long break, and some join with a bit of prior experience but want a supportive place to rebuild confidence. What matters most is commitment, curiosity, and a willingness to learn together.

As part of the wider Crofton family, Training Band also takes part in joint rehearsals with the award-winning Crofton Silver Band. These shared sessions give players a chance to sit alongside more experienced musicians, see what’s possible, and feel part of something bigger, all in a friendly and encouraging setting.

Support is always there. Players aren’t expected to know everything, and no one is left behind. We take time to explain, repeat, and grow at a pace that works for the group.

For many, Training Band is a stepping stone towards more advanced banding. For others, it’s simply a place to enjoy making music regularly in a welcoming, supportive environment.

However long someone stays, the aim is the same. To feel part of something, to keep learning, and to experience the buzz of playing music together.
