Mary started playing trombone at 14 and went on to study music at Huddersfield. She decided to keep it as a hobby, playing in a number of different ensembles, from orchestras to pit bands, rhythm bands, brass bands wind bands and brass ensembles across the UK and Europe over the years.
She moved into post 16 education, going back to Huddersfield for a degree in Education, then focusing on quality for a leading awarding organisation. She then completed a masters in developmental psychology and a level 5 diploma in therapeutic counselling.
She decided it was time for a new musical challenge in 2022 and took up the Baritone, joining Crofton silver in 2024. Mary believes music is so important for a healthy brain at any age. Studies show playing and instrument or singing not only helps brain development in children but in adults too. Mary believes that this is why Crofton Music Trust is so important, to offer access to this to all.
